When Do You Need to Change the Name on Your Passport?

You’ll need to apply for a name change if:

  • Your name changed due to marriage or divorce
  • You were granted a legal name change by a court
  • Your current passport does not match your flight tickets or visa information
  • You are required to update travel documents for compliance or immigration purposes

Changing your name on your passport is not just a legal requirement—it prevents delays during international travel and ensures your identification is always up to date.

How the Passport Name Change Process Works

The name change process involves a few essential steps. Our team walks you through each one:

    • Determine Eligibility – We help assess whether you qualify for a name change via DS-82, DS-5504, or DS-11.
    • Document Preparation – We assist in organizing your supporting documents and legal statements.
    • Photo and Signature – We make sure your passport photo meets official requirements and that all forms are signed properly.
    • Submission and Tracking – Once submitted, we monitor the status of your application and notify you of progress.
    • Expedited Option – If time is tight, we’ll explain how long it takes to get a passport expedited and any applicable expedited passport fees to get your new passport faster.
